Ardith Marie Henningsgaard, age 91, passed away in her home on the farm on May 18th, 2019.

Ardith, the first born of Raymond and Madeline (Woodward) Ziebol, was welcomed with joy on March 18, 1928. Ardith grew up in St. Cloud, Minnesota, as the eldest of seven children. She celebrated her first sacraments at St. John Cantius Catholic church – just two blocks from her parents’ home. For several years Ardith made the long daily walk to and from St. Cloud’s Cathedral High school, where she graduated with good friends and memories.
Ardith met Rodney at a dance in St Cloud. They were married on May 28, 1948. The couple lived in Minneapolis for a short time before moving to rural Canby to assist Rodney’s mother, Thecla Henningsgaard, with the family farm. Rodney and Ardith remained on the farm for the rest of their lives together, becoming the loving parents to ten children. In her later years she would fondly count out their names on her ten fingers, saying: Kathy, Mark, Mary, JoAnn, Dale, Alice, Robert, Jeffery, Donna, and Steven!

Ardith gardened, canned, sewed and cared for her large family with much skill and grace. She was an active member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Canby, and served on the present church’s building committee, the St. Peter’s CCW, the very first St. Peter’s church fall festival committee, and as a volunteer at St. Peter’s school and library. Ardith created beautiful flower gardens on the family farm and participated in shows organized by the Iris Society of Minnesota. She worked for a short time as an agent for the University of Minnesota’s Food and Nutrition Program. She also assisted with the Canby hospital auxiliary bazaar, and travelled around to various craft shows selling exquisite handmade doll clothes, wall hangings and crafts.

Ardith and Rodney enjoyed traveling and RV camping together with their children. Later in life, they visited their grown children all over the United States and Alaska. Their last trip together was to Thailand to celebrate their son Jeffrey’s wedding. Ardith went on to travel to Italy, Switzerland, Poland and Germany. She was always eager to learn and embraced new places and people with her characteristic warmth and respect.

Many people will remember Ardith for her tremendous wit, humor, loyalty, and talent. She spent countless hours sewing beautiful quilts which she gifted to loved ones. Her greatest joy was in her family, and she would share pictures and stories with anyone who came to visit.
She is survived by children: Kathy (Tom) Morris, (daughter-in-law) Sue Jirsa, Mary (Celeste) Rittman, JoAnn (Phil) Van Hollebeke, Dale (Diane) Henningsgaard, Robert (Julie) Henningsgaard, Alice Gust, Jeffrey (Orachat) Henningsgaard, Donna (Randy) Braun, Steven (Carla) Henningsgaard; sister, Carol Buess; brother, Andy (Laurie) Ziebol; brothers-in-law: John Henningsgaard and Harold Henningsgaard; sisters-in-law, Charlotte Henningsgaard, Lou Ziebol and Bobbie Ziebol; 31 beloved grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren with two more on the way!

Ardith was preceded in death by her husband, Rodney; son, Mark; son-in-law, Perry Gust; brothers: Raymond, Edward (Barb), Donald (Gloriann) and James Ziebol; brothers-in-law: Gerald, Maurice (Francis) and Paul (Arlene) Henningsgaard; sisters-in-law, Barbara (John) Jensen, Helen (Ralph) McCauley) and Patricia Henningsgaard.
