Elmer Fredrick Musch was born on June 17, 1928 in Moritz, South Dakota to Henry and Emma (Paulsen) Musch. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran in Altamont. He attended country school near Moritz and then proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.

Elmer was united in marriage to Arlene “Dolly” Wittnebel on September 9, 1950 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Altamont. They were blessed with two daughters, Jeanie and Connie. They raised their girls on the farm near Moritz and farmed side by side until they retired and built a home in Clear Lake.

Elmer enjoyed deer and pheasant hunting and fishing with his family especially with his grandsons. Model trains were something that Elmer thoroughly enjoyed. His passion for model trains lead him to construct a replica of the town of Moritz and the surrounding area. His model is now on display at the Gary Historical Museum in Gary, SD.

Elmer was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he was involved in many boards and the church council. He was also a member of the Peden-Cole American Legion, Post 109 of Gary, SD.

Grateful for having Elmer’s life is his wife of 68 years, Dolly Musch; his two daughters: Jeanie Musch of Temple, TX and Connie (George) Kreger of Clear Lake, SD; two grandsons: Daron (Jill) Kreger and Dustin (Amanda) Kreger both of Clear Lake, SD; seven great-grandchildren: Braylin, Colton and Dalton Kreger and Carson, Kamryn, Cade and Chase Kreger; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
