James “Jim” Roy Dahlgren was born on January 30, 1949 in Hendricks, MN to Roy and Esther (Carlson) Dahlgren. Jim was raised in rural Ivanhoe on his family’s farm where at the age of 12 he started doing repairs jobs. He was a self-taught welder and machinist who continued with his passion his entire life until health halted his shop time. He owned and operated Dahlgren Machine Shop for many years in Hendricks, where he enjoyed helping the famers and people of the community with whatever needed to be repaired. His business, friends and associates were very important to him. Meeting through mutual friends, Jim met Doris Moe and they have spent the last 24 years as loving friends and companions.

Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting for the majority of his life. He also enjoyed playing accordion and the harmonica along with riding motorcycle and being a car enthusiast. The giving of guns to his grandsons was a special time for him. Time spent with family and friends especially his grandchildren meant the world to him. The one finger wave and the “HI There” was a trademark of Jim’s that most will remember.

Jim was member of the Hendricks Volunteer Fire Department and the Hendricks Business Club for many years.

Grateful for having shared Jim’s life is his best friend, Doris Moe of Hendricks; his kids: Teri (Josh Desmet) Moe of Hendricks, Kelly (Eric) Hawks of Hendricks and Courtney (Chad) Koopman of Lake Benton; his 8 grandchildren: Payton, Kolby, Jake, Levi, Jerika, Brinley, Taton and Kyson; his mother, Esther Dahlgren; his sisters: Jean (Calvin) Gilbert of Lake Benton, Joyce Kelm of Albany, OR; and 16 nieces and nephews and several grand nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Roy Dahlgren; his grandparents: Gustof and Anna (Brengelson) Dahlgren and Eric and Marie (Steuck) Carlson; one brother-in-law, Bruce Kelm.
