Obituary for Lyman Anshus

Lyman Anshus, age 93, of Canby, MN passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Sunrise of Golden Valley, MN. Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 25, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church, Canby, MN. Burial will be at the Canby City Cemetery, Canby, MN. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at the Houseman Funeral Home in Canby, MN.

Lyman Stanley Anshus was born on June 8, 1925 to Henry and Selma (Anderson) Anshus of Becker, MN. His boyhood/teen years were spent on the Becker farm with four siblings. He graduated from Becker High School in 1942 and managed the family farm after his father’s death.

He married Jean Hemish from Canby, MN in 1952. The couple bought a farmstead in Canby that same year, and spent their lives improving the land and buildings. In 1988, Lyman and Jean won Conservation Farmer Award from “The Farmer” for tiling of land and other conservation practices. Lyman also dairy farmed for 40 years. He was known for his exceptional dawn to dusk work ethic. He was also a fitness buff who was seen walking miles along his county road even throughout his 80s.

The couple was involved in the United Presbyterian Church of Canby. Lyman served as a church deacon, elder and church volunteer until his health failed. Lyman enjoyed many years of old-time dancing on Minnesota and South Dakota dance floors. He loved politics and enjoyed watching Fox News at night. He was a diehard Viking fan. He loved fishing for northern pike. Lyman was very proud of his two children Lori and Craig. Craig is a chiropractor and Lori was a mediator and both reside in Minneapolis-St. Paul area.

Lyman is survived by his children: Lori (Michael) Radmer and Craig Anshus; two beloved grandchildren: Jacquelyn (Jeremy) Davis of Phoenix, AZ and Michael Radmer of Minneapolis, MN; and two young great-grandchildren: Hudson and Reese Davis of Phoenix.

He was preceded in death by wife, Jean; parents; Henry and Selma Anshus; sisters: Lillian Chambers, Georgia Anshus, Helen Anshus; and brother Dean Anshus.
