Sophia Christene was born on December 29, 1936 in Drammen Township in Lincoln County to Arthur and Ethel (Hayes) Junge. Sophia attended school in Lake Benton and graduated as Valedictorian of her class in 1955.
Following high school Sophia moved to Minneapolis to attend college for a brief time before moving back to Lincoln County. She was united in marriage to Jerry Lipinski on Monday, February 15, 1971 in Ivanhoe. They made their home on the family farm where they worked hard for over 40 years. They were blessed with two children, Kevin and Susie.
Sophia worked at Divine Providence Hospital when it first opened in 1967 as a nurse’s aide and later at the Divine Providence Nursing Home in Ivanhoe until her retirement.
Sophia enjoyed reading, bird watching, gardening and flowers. Red roses were her favorite. She was a lifelong fan of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. She enjoyed keeping up with the news through the newspapers and TV, as well as following politics. She always made sure the house was decorated for every season and holiday and collected snowmen. She enjoyed every moment with her grandchildren and was fond of the pets our family had over the years.
Grateful for having shared Sophia’s life are her children: Kevin of Brookings, SD and Susie (Chad) of Colman, SD; two grandchildren: Kade (Justyna) and Karisma; sister-in-law, Elaine Dressen, Ghent, MN; as well as nieces and nephews: Mark Dressen, Cheri LeBrun, Todd Dressen, Anne Nelson and Dave Foster.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry in 2011; her father, Art in 1980; her mother, Ethel in 1995; sister and brother-in-law, Lille and Doug Foster; and brother, Lawrence.
